Works are set to commence on March 9th
Louth County Council has given notice that it will close the N2 in sections to facilitate works between Ardee and Cookstown.
The works are scheduled to take place for short durations of not more than seven days from March 9th to June 19th.
It is proposed to close the N2 south of the roundabout, diverting traffic along the N52 and onto the N33. The R171 will also be closed, diverting the traffic at Tallanstown, via the R166 and then onto the N52 for 5 nights between 18th May – 5th June 2026.
It is also proposed to close the N2 at Carrickmacross roundabout to facilitate resurfacing works for 5 nights between 18th May – 5th June 2026. Diversion routes will be signposted.

Notice is also given that Louth County Council is making a Road Works Speed Limit Order, in accordance with Section 10(1) of the Road Traffic Act 2004, in the interest of road safety for short durations of not more than seven days at the below location. Speed Limit of 50kph shall apply from 09th March 2026 to 19th June 2026 to the road length of the N2 between the coordinates as indicated below.
