Cllr John Reilly has called for more bus services in northern parts of Dundalk
Dundalk-Carlingford's Cllr John Reilly has called for an increase in bus services in the northern end of Dundalk, saying that the provision of public transport services have not matched the increase in population in the area.
Cllr Reilly said that the northern end of Dundalk, particularly areas like Ath Lethan, Coulter Place, and Lios Dubh, is facing growing frustration over the lack of public transport as populations surge. "Despite significant population surges in northern Dundalk, bus services have not kept pace, leaving large parts of the town under-served", the Fine Gael councillor told the Dundalk Democrat.
Cllr Reilly has been vocal on the issue and has written to Bus Éireann about his frustration at the lack of bus services in these areas. "The northern end of Dundalk is clearly suffering the most," he commented. "The population has increased dramatically in these areas, but the public transport infrastructure has not followed suit. It’s critical that we extend bus routes or create new ones to meet the demand of these growing communities."
Cllr Reilly said it is his hope to meet Bus Eireann in the near future to discuss with them firsthand, "their plans to organise a scheduled service that will give people a reliable public transport option".
