Cllr Marianne Butler had sought update on the fund at the Louth County Council July meeting

Cllr Marianne Butler has welcomed confirmation of projects in Louth approved for funding under the Community Climate Action Fund, which has seen €604,000 allocated to projects across the county.

Cllr Butler had sought an update on the fund at the Louth County Council July meeting, seeking a list of projects approved for funding. The fund which is aimed at supporting and helping build low carbon communities across Ireland. It is part of the Community Climate Action Programme, which supports projects and initiatives that facilitate community climate action through education, capacity building and learning by doing.

There was a total of five themes under which community groups could apply for funding - Community Energy, Travel, Food and Waste, Shopping and Recycling and Local Climate and Environmental Action. Community groups who have applied for funding under this funding stream were required to put forward a project that delivered a direct climate benefit, under one or more of the five themes and within the programme rules and guidelines.

The funding streams that were available were as follows: Small Scale Projects (up to €20,000),Medium Scale Projects (€20,000-€50,000), Large Scale Projects (€50,000- €100,000),the Community Climate Action Fund offers 100% funding for community groups to carry out their projects.

Commenting on the fund and the approved projects in Louth, Cllr Butler told the Dundalk Democrat last week that, “I am delighted to see the distribution of the €604,000 Community Climate Action Fund in County Louth. I am really looking forward to each of these projects being completed and having a meaningful and practical impact on climate action in our County.

“It was great to get the news last week that Ireland's Greenhouse Gas Emissions fell by 6.8% in 2023, the first reduction Ireland has seen since 1990. These projects will no doubt help contribute to further reductions in Greenhouse Gas emissions, they will also benefits our local community groups by giving them greatly reduced running costs especially with the installation of solar panels reducing electricity bills and providing income by exporting excess energy back to the grid.

“Installing LED will also help reduce running costs for flood lights for our pitches. I also want to welcome the projects that will support and enhance biodiversity in our county. I really want to especially welcome the following local projects:

"€15,950 for Dundalk Outcomers to install solar panels on their premises.
"€41,000 for Geraldines GFC to install solar panels and upgrade their lighting to LED.
"€63,700 for Dromiskin Tidy Towns to complete a Sustainable Urban Drainage System project.
