Louth's Cllr Sheridan welcomes Tenure bus connection

Louth's Cllr Sheridan welcomes Tenure bus connection

Cllr John Sheridan in Tenure

Cllr John Sheridan has welcomed news from Bus Éireann, that the 100 bus route will now serve the village of Tenure to and from Drogheda.
"This is excellent news", Cllr Sheridan commented, "I have been campaigning on this with the National Transport Authority for over two years. The new service commenced at the start of July."
"The village of Tenure will now have 93 services per week in each direction. Basically the 100 bus route coming from Drogheda will turn after the Monasterboice Inn (Donegans) up to Tenure, turn towards the Valley Inn and then continue towards Dunleer and Dundalk."
The Fianna Fáil councillor continued: "The most recent 2022 census data shows that 894 people live in Tenure village and as part of active travel it was not acceptable that a village the size of Tenure wouldn't have a scheduled daily bus service to and from Drogheda."
"I was shocked to have met some constituents who tell me their only option was to walk 2.7km on a road with no footpath or lights to the Monasterboice Inn to get the bus into town. So this wasn't just an environmental issue its also a road safety issue.
"We have seen the success of public transport in recent years and I very much believe in a 'build it and they will come' mentality with public transport. We want to encourage people to use public transport. I hope now those who requested the service will use it"
Cllr Sheridan added, "separately, I am also liaising with local parents of school children and Bus Éireann in relation to school transport for the the forthcoming school year for school children in Tenure to get a school bus to Drogheda."
