Dundalk’s street mural of Roesia de Verdun on  Park Street has been nominated in the “best of 2023” shortlist by the website Street Art Cities which records the location of street art around the world.

The mural which is the creation of artists Studio Giftig and depicts Roesia de Verdun, who is believed to have built Roche Castle and who legend says, threw the architect whom she promised to marry in exchange for building her the castle out its main window.

The three swallows of the town’s coat of arms combined with the roses symbolise her legacy in Dundalk.

Street Art Cities started in 2016 as a small attempt to create an online map to help out two street art hunters in hunt more effectively in their cities.

A year after launching a simple version of the website, they decided to open up the platform for any other hunters that possibly might be interested. Anyone could fill in a form and get their own city.streetartcities.com website.

Votes can be cast in the best of 2023 category at: https://streetartcities.com/awards/2023
