Louth Science Festival returns for 2023

Louth County Council announces launch of Louth Science Festival

Louth Science Festival returns for 2023

The festival will officially be launched this Saturday at Dundalk Library

Louth County Council is looking ahead to one of the most highly-anticipated events in the Louth Library Service calendar - the Louth Science Festival (LSF) - which takes place from November 13 – 26, 2023.

Funded and supported by Louth County Council and Creative Ireland, Louth Science Festival has sought to make science more fun and accessible to the entire community.

The local authority has partnered with local community groups and schools, national organisations and a wide range of facilitators to deliver a unique and engaging programme.

LSF 2023 will see a continuation of Louth Library Service’s work with Dundalk Institute of Technology (DKIT), iCrag, the Irish Air Corps and Met Éireann, as well as local primary and secondary schools.

Furthermore, new collaborations with the Road Safety Authority (RSA) and Wildlife Rehabilitation Ireland (WRI) will lead to a number of exciting, specialised events for schools, Early Learning Centres and adults, including road safety demonstrations and origami workshops.

Louth County Council says that there is "truly something for everyone at Louth Science Festival; from our youngest citizens to our oldest; for all interests and abilities".

It says that there will be talks on the craft of Blacksmithing; Farm Safety; Geology; and supporting your immune system through the Winter months. Workshops for schools will include DNA Cell Explorers; the Science of Music; and Weather and Climate.

For the first time ever, Louth Library Service will invite teams to join in a fun Family Science Quiz, to test the depth of their science and general knowledge and be in with the chance of winning a great prize!

The festival will officially be launched on Saturday 11 November, when Dr Barry Fitzgerald kicks off proceedings with ‘The Science of Santa Claus’; taking place in Dundalk Library at 10:15am and in Drogheda Library at 12:30pm.

If your little ones have ever wondered how Santa’s sleigh flies sustainably; how he avoids bad weather, and what food and drinks are best left out for Santa on Christmas Eve, this event is not to be missed!
