Senior Hurling League Final
Knockbridge: 1-14
St Fechins: 2-9
Knockbridge hurlers ended their season on a high after clinching the Senior League title with a narrow victory over St Fechins at Darver on Saturday evening.
The south Louth side went into the game hoping to complete a league and championship double but were denied on the day by a determined Knockbridge side.
The red-and-whites had the better of things for much of the hour and looked on course for a comfortable win.
However, St Fechins fought back in the closing stage to cut the gap to the minimum Knockbridge held out in the end.
Despite having the brighter opening with points from Paddy Lynch (2), Seaghan Conneely and Ryan Walsh - all in the first four minutes - it was Knockbridge who looked the sharper, clocking up 1-6 unanswered all be it with their fair share of wides.
It took a point from Paddy Lynch in the 23rd minute to get his side back on the scoreboard followed by another from a placed ball.
A super goal from Barry Devlin on the stroke of half time levelled the game at 1-6 each.
The teams exchanged points in the first five minutes of the second half before Knockbridge went up a gear and pulled away by scoring seven points unanswered, four from placed balls.
They would have been confident heading into the last ten minutes of play but the unstoppable Paddy Lynch pointed three times from frees and found the back of the net just over the 30 minute mark to leave only one between the teams.
Knockbridge breathed a sigh of relief as they got the final score of the match to claim the League title.
St Fechins now have the Leinster club Championship to look forward to on 28th October as they face the Longford champions.
