Dundalk Golf Club secure spot in All Ireland Semi-finals

The Dundalk Golf Club panel who have reached the semi-finals of the All-Ireland Revive Active Fourball competition

Dundalk Golf Club have reached the All-Ireland semi-finals in the Women’s Revive Active Fourball after an impressive 4-1 win over Greenisland. The Leinster North champions proved too strong for the Ulster North winners in Greenore.

In the top match in Greenore on Saturday, Elaine Ward and Grainne Mullins were taken to the 18th by Greenisland’s Myraid Craig and Lee Ann Clarke but held on to win by one hole and give Dundalk the perfect start.

Behind them, Gillian McDonnell and Judy McDonough secured another point with their 3&2 win over Margaret Brown and Laura Watson.

The vital third point, which booked Dundalk’s place in the last four, was secured by Jacinta Foran and Ide McDermott, who had an emphatic 5&4 win over Louise Noble and Nuala Parkes.

In the other two matches, Katie Rowland and Sally McDonnell plus the duo of Anna Rowland and Mary Lou Grennan were both in contention for victory when they were called in.

Dundalk now face Leinster Central champions Gowran Park in the semi-final on September 16 in Knightsbrook, after the Kilkenny side beat Ballybunnion 4-1 in their quarter-final on Sunday.

This Saturday will see Dundalk go looking for a second All-Ireland semi-final place when the Women’s Junior Cup team faces Ballycastle in their national quarter-final, which is being played in Dundalk along with two other quarter-finals in other competition.

The Dundalk match will tee-off at 9.30am and will be followed by an AIG Women's Intermediate Cup quarter-final between Portsalon and Black Busk at 10.30am and the AIG Jimmy Bruen Shield quarter-final between Cairndhu and Headfort at 11.30am.

This Wednesday, Dundalk get a chance to add to their solitary green pennant when the Boys play in the Irish Boys Inter-Club Final at Castletroy Golf Club.

This is a stableford team competition, with the best three scores out of five to count and Dundalk will face Ballina, Dungarvan, Kileen, Belvoir Park, Carrickfergus, Delgany and Lahinch. Dundalk have been paired with Lahinch and he will tee off in the last grouping at 12:30pm.

The Provincial Towns Cup team lost the home leg of their final against Coollattin on Saturday afternoon but are still very much in contention going into the second leg next month. The Wicklow club won 4-3 but won’t be taking anything for granted when the teams meet again on September 16.

Dundalk’s winners on Saturday were Des McKeown, who came from one down with three to play to win by two holes, Odhran MacShane, who won by 5&4, and Damian English. who won the final two holes to win two up.
