DKIT SPORT JUNIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 2 GROUP 1
WOLFE TONES 3-18 DOWDALLSHILL 0-6
With two wins from two, Wolfe Tones are through to the knockout stages as Group 2 winners. The mismatch was apparent from the very start, with Dowdallshill continuing to struggle for form this season, be it league or championship.
‘Hill and Cuchulainn Gaels now meet in Roche this Friday night to decide second place and hopefully extend their season to the knockout stages as the Tones can luxuriously rest up and get ready for the quarter finals with confidence and having had a good look at their depth chart.
Despite Sean Duffy and Dylan Curran’s best efforts at the back for the St Brigid’s Park men, the Drogheda men penned Gerry Curran’s side in and set about finishing off the job early.
Top scorer Rory Taaffe found the net after a cleverly worked short free and Chris Cudden again was among the goals to rebound home his second in a fortnight.
The cornerman is showing form having rattled an early goal the week before against the Omeath men. That could be very valuable in the coming weeks.
With the Tones leading 2-8 to 0-2 at the half time interval, the second half was still just as punishing for the Dowdallers. Even Peter Hughes in the sweeper position could not stop Mark Healy surging forward to bury past Emmet O’Brien with the Tones third late goal.
It was a case of mission accomplished for Darren Moore’s men as they march on confidently to the serious end of the season.
