McConville Cup

Shamrocks won the local treble last season, but a 3-0 defeat to Quay Celtic ended any hopes of regaining this leg of the treble

McConville Cup Quarter Finals

St.Dominic's 4 Bellurgan United 2 (AET)

Stephen Flanagan gave Bellurgan a 20th minute lead, shooting home from close range. Greg Shannon had the sides level six minutes later, getting to a high clearance before the advancing keeper. Turning over at one apiece that is the way it remained after 90 minutes.

In extra time Colm Braken's superb strike quickly put the Doms ahead before it was added to by Shannon to make it 3-1 to the hosts. The second period of extra time produced a stunning strike from Lee Dullaghan to move the Friary side 4-1 in front.

In the last few minutes Ciaran Fisher pounced on a mistake from the home keeper to make the final score 4-2 to the League leaders who march into the semifinals.

Glenmuir United 2 Bay United 3

In a game that never caught fire, Bay United reached the semi final of the Blue ribboned trophy of local soccer thanks to goals from Gino Cooney, Taylor Murphy and Andy McDermott to pip Glenmuir on a 3-2 scoreline.

Glenmuir goals were scored by Joe Byrne and Fionn Kenny. There were great cries for a late penalty from the Glen's supporters, but the referee ignored them as Glenmuir narrowly advanced.

Rampart Celtic 2 Carrick Rovers 2

Two goals from Anto Lines in the first half gave Rampart a cushion that was to stand to them in this keenly contested match.

Turning over 2-0 ahead, they were pulled back to 2-1 when Keane Reilly converted from the spot in the 63rd minute. From then on it was brave goalkeeping from Rampart keeper David Lynch that saw them through the semi finals.

The game was held up 10 minutes before time when a Carrick player collapsed on the pitch. A doctor who was at the match quickly took control of the situation and the player was well attended too and was able to travel back to Carrick with his team mates.

Shamrocks FC 0 Quay Celtic 3

Quay Celtic knocked cup holders Shamrocks out of the McConville Cup with a deserved 3-0 victory.

Blake Stevens reacted fastest to cause chaos in the home side's defence to tap in a 7th minute goal to put Quay in front.

On 25 minutes a rattled Shamrocks gave away a penalty, which their young goalkeeper saved. There was nothing he could do as a screamer from Ronan Cunningham found the roof of the net on 40 minutes, to send the Point Road side in at the interval 2-0 up.

The second half failed to live in to the tempo of the first 45 minutes, Mark Agnew shooting home a third Quay goal in the 88th minute. Quay now join Bay, St.Dominics and Rampart in the semifinal draw.
