Jo Barry accepting the Lady Captains trophy from Mannan Castle Lady Captain Teresa Butler
Far from summer weather we are having, but lucky enough we had two dry days for golf in the latest round of the Summer Series. Finishing top of the leaderboard this week was Finbar Boylan.
He shot a score of 38pts with a strong 20pts on the back nine. In second place was Niall Hughes, who also shot a score of 38pts. Niall has been playing very consistent golf in the Summer Series, and long may it continue.
Ronan Donaghy finished in third spot with a score of 37pts. The chip in on the last for birdie helped Ronan finish in the podium positions. The gross prize went to Mark Lambe, who shot a score of 1 over par.
We would like to thank our sponsor for this week FloorTherm Renewables LTD for their continued support.

MANNAN CASTLE SENIORS
Mannan Castle Seniors were fortunate with the weather for their second major of the year. The rain held off and there was a large turnout for Club Captain Barry Conroy's Prize to the Seniors.
A closely contested competition played over 13 holes saw some very good scoring. In the end Peter Marquis and Tom Fox were tied on 32 points, with Peter's 19 points for the back seven holes beating Tom's 16 points for victory.
Michael Johnson was very close in third place with an excellent score of 31 points, which included no less than eight 3 pointers. A no score on the third hole proving costly.
The Seniors Club would like to thank Captain Barry for his generosity and support.

MANNAN CASTLE LADIES
To win the Captain's Prize, the winner has to put two really good rounds together. Any golfer knows that can be a tall order. This year's winner got the dream start and led the field after Day 1 despite all the rain.
The pressure of that lead can be tough to carry on Day 2, but despite a slight hiccup on the front nine, Jo Barry held her nerve and stayed focused, racking up the points over the back nine.
It must have been a nervy wait until all the scores were in and the announcement was made at the gala Captain's dinner later that evening with Jo Barry, being named the eventual winner of the Captain's Prize 2023.
Lady Captain Teresa hosted a wonderful evening in the clubhouse, which was beautifully decorated thanks to the team of creative ladies, who ably supported their captain on her very special occasion.
A wonderful array of prizes were presented to the delighted winners by Captain Teresa. In her speech, Teresa thanked everyone for coming and congratulated all the winners.
Teresa showed her appreciation to everyone within the club who helped in all kinds of ways to make the day possible, and to Tommy and everyone in the kitchen for the delicious food. With all the official business out of the way, the evening continued with music and dancing until the wee hours.

The weather decimated a full-time timesheet, however after the rain stopped at 11 o’clock after 12 hours of rain, those who ventured out enjoyed a dry round of golf.
Once again it was the twilight golfers who had the best scores. Aine Fitzmaurice didn’t have a great start, but three pars, including a fantastic par on the 14th hole gave her four points. You must suspect this girl will be playing off a much lower handicap in the very near future.
Finishing with 37pts after a solid round of golf, Aine secures yet another win in our weekly competition, beating Ali Eli by one shot.
Ali Ellis only had one point of the first hole but played the rest of the par threes beautifully. 18 points on both nines, with two scratched holes on the back nine, saw her finishing three shots ahead of the field.
Women’s Weekly 18 STB sponsored by Sheelin Group - 1st Aine Fitzmaurice (29) 37pts, 2nd Ali Ellis (25) 36pts.
