Sentenced for assaulting young woman in Dundalk

Two people who were convicted of seriously assaulting a young woman on the Dublin Road in Dundalk, have been sentenced at Dundalk district court.

Lindsey Quigley (26) of Laurel Grove, Greenacres, Dundalk and Tyrone Byrne (29) of Anne Street, Dundalk had both denied a charge of assault causing harm on October 11th 2020.

The contested hearing in May was told the victim and her friend had left a house party, when a car pulled up and Lindsey Quigley got out of the front passenger side.

The injured party said she ended up on the ground fighting with Ms. Quigley who she said "had it in her head that I called her child a horrible name".

The witness said she could hear Tyrone Byrne saying "kill her Lindsey, kill her".

The witness further claimed Mr. Byrne kicked her in the head when she was on the ground.

She said she suffered cuts to her face and had a bleed outside her brain.

Mobile phone footage, which had been filmed by a third party and was forwarded to the complainant, was also shown to the court.

The case had been put back for the preparation of Probation reports.

The Defence solicitor said that while Ms Quigley's report criticised her for maintaining her position, she wished to clarify that she accepted the decision of the court, but doesn't accept the narrative that was given.

Judge Eirinn McKiernan imposed a six month sentence on Tyrone Byrne, who she noted had not turned up for the original hearing.

A four month sentence was imposed on Lindsey Quigley.

The judge also fixed recognizance in the event of appeals being lodged.
