Having completed eight full laps of the chellenging circuit, PJ Hynes ended up taking the title
The Louth Cross Country Mountain Bike Championships took place in Ravensdale on Tuesday 18 July.
The race, hosted by Cuchulainn Cycling club, was held on a short but demanding 1.2km loop, using trail routes in the forest, making it scenic yet challenging course for competitors of all levels of cycling.
Riders attempted to complete as many laps as possible over a 35-minute period with PJ Hynes, from Lordship, emerging as the winner after completing eight laps.
PJ was pushed all the way by 15-year-old Oliver Hylen O’Shaughnessy (Doolargy), who finished only 39 seconds behind.
Ray, Oliver’s father, recovered from a deflating tyre early in the race to complete the podium and take 3rd place, only three seconds in arrears.
Louth XC Championships: PJ Hynes, Oliver Hylén O’Shaughnessy, Raymond O’Shaughnessy, Kelan Grant, Imants Ignatjevs, Colin McQuaid, Seán Kelly, Des Stapleton, Marc Potts, Pierce Doheny.
