Louth Division 3 Roundup: John Mitchels get their hands on Division 3B trophy

HOLLYWOOD DEVELOPMENTS DIVISION 3A ROUND 14

GLYDE RANGERS 2-11
WOLFE TONES 1-6

Glyde Rangers made it back-to-back wins when they scored a crucial 2-11 to 1-6 victory over Wolfe Tones in Tallanstown.

The result sees the hosts move off the bottom of the table, three points clear of Naomh Fionnbarra, who slipped back to bottom spot.

The victory was based on a strong first half display that saw the Mid Louth side build up a 1-6 to 0-2 advantage.

The Tones improved in the second half and gave themselves hope, but Glyde weren’t to be denied as they ran out winners by eight points.

Ciaran Sheridan and Jack McKeever landed the goals for the hosts, while Ultan Larney, Oisin Lynch and Killian Scott also contributed points as their side took maximum points from this contest.

Darren Weldon found the net for a Tones side, who also had points from Jordan Duffy and Garrett Cooney.

NA PIARSAIGH 3-6
NH FIONNBARRA 2-4


Na Piarsaigh Blackrock also picked up what could prove to be a very important win when they came out on top against Naomh Fionnbarra at the Rock Road on a 3-6 to 2-4 scoreline.

The result moves the Dundalk men five points clear of the Ballygassan side, who now find themselves back at the bottom of the Division 3A table and facing a tough battle to stay in the division.

It was looking good for the Barrs at the end of a tight first half as they led by 2-2 to 1-4, thanks to two goals from Conor Osborne, but they were second best after the restart as the hosts took control.

David Boyle, Paul Mallon and Robert Murphy found the net for Na Piarsaigh Blackrock, while Jamie Fealy and Ciaran Murphy contributed points.

At the other end, Ciaran Markey, Jack Regan and Aaron Kearney pointed for the Barrs.

They will hope they can improve ahead of huge game against Glyde Rangers in the next round of fixtures in two weeks.

STAB PARNELLS
OLIVER PLUNKETTS  

The eagerly awaited top-of-the-table clash between Stabannon Parnells and Oliver Plunketts was abandoned early in the second half following an injury to Derek Crilly. At the time Parnells were leading by 1-7 to 1-5.

DIVISION 3B ROUND 13

JOHN MITCHELS 0-15
WESTERNS 1-3  

John Mitchels were presented with the Division 3B trophy after recording a comprehensive 0-15 to 1-3 winners over Westerns at Reaghstown.

After a slow start, the champions had three points on the board through John Gallagher (2) and James Clarke before the Westerns levelled through an Emmet Smyth goal.

However, Trevor Matthews and Carl Courtney pointed to help send the visitors in at the break with a 0-7 to 1-1 lead.

The Mitchels were very much on top in the second half and points from Cathal Corrigan, Mikey Nulty and John Bingham saw them emerge with a nine-point win.

Killian Crosbie was the other Westerns scorer on the night, and they will hope they can learn from a tough league campaign ahead of what looks a tough Junior championship draw next month.

Afterwards, County Board Secretary, Bob Doheny, presented the trophy to Mitchels captain, John Bingham, a first major trophy in many years for the Ballybailie based club.

NAOMH MALACHI 2-15
DOWDALLSHILL 0-2


Naomh Malachi secured the runners-up spot in Division 3B as they cruised past Dowdallshill at Courtbane. The hosts were never in any real danger against the bottom club, as they posted a 2-15 to 0-2 win.

By the time the half time whistle sounded, the game was beyond any doubt as the hosts had landed 1-10, with Dowdallshill failing to get off the mark.

The visitors did register two points in the second half, but the Mals continued to dominate and saw Jack Kirwan finish with 1-4 to his name, while Keelan Conlon also hit the net.

There were also points scored via the impressive trio of Shane Rogers, Paudie Moley and Darren Clarke.

CUCHULAINN GAELS 2-10
SEAN MCDERMOTTS 0-9


Cuchulainn Gaels moved above Sean McDermotts in the Division 3B table with a 2-10 to 0-9 win over the Mountrush side in Omeath.

The hosts always appeared to have the slight edge in this contest and at the break had established a 0-7 to 0-4 lead for their efforts.

The second period saw the Gaels continue to hold the upper hand and they made it count with goals from Philip McGovern and Brendan O’Hagan. Cian McDonald and Micheal McCabe landed four points each.

Marty Duffy continued his good scoring form with four points on the night, while Stefan Halpenny added three. Kevin McMahon and Cormac Walsh were also on target, but it wasn’t enough to save the Seans from defeat.

ANNAGMINNON ROVERS 2-10
ST NICHOLAS 1-4


Despite scoring a 2-10 to 2-7 win over Annaghminnon Rovers in Stonetown, St Nicholas missed out on second place in the table as Naomh Malachi picked up the points they needed elsewhere.

The home side had the better of the first half and went in at the break with a deserved 2-5 to 1-4 lead, thanks to goals from Dwayne Markey and James O’Connor.

The Nicks hit back in the second period and went on to win by three, as Rovers could only manage to add two points to their tally.

Sam Reilly and Shane Downey raised green flags for the winners, while Paudi Downey landed eight points. Fergal Markey and Aidan Lee Martin were also among the scorers for Annaghminnon.
