A solicitor for a man who was caught driving uninsured at County Hall, has told Dundalk District Court her client had no other option, as he was coming under pressure from his landlord to apply for the Housing Assistance Payment.
Jude Esezobor of Táin Court, Bridge Street, Dundalk was prosecuted for an offence on March 30th 2021.
The solicitor said her client's insurance had lapsed at the time, as he was not driving during Covid 19.
Judge Eirinn McKiernan, who noted the defendant had a number of previous convictions for driving without insurance, imposed a four year disqualification and two month sentence, which she suspended for 12 months.
At the request of the Defence, the judge fixed recognizance for an appeal on his own bond of €300 with an independent surety of €500 cash to be lodged.
