Last weekend seen the competitions played off the back tees. It showed in the scoring, as only a couple of players broke their handicap.

Conor Fegan was one of them, shooting a superb score of 42pts to win Division 1. Conor has been in fine form recently and showed with a two under par back nine on Sunday.

MANNAN CASTLE LADIES

A terrific turnout for Captain Barry Conroy's Prize, played over a tough course with tricky pin positions, befitting a Captain's Prize. And it required exceptional scoring to be in this week's top three.

Showing a run of good form, first and second were the same as last week's competition. Mary MacNamee really got into cruising gear again on the back nine, this week parring four in a row from 12 to 15, to finish with 41 points, bettering her last week's score by 3.

Second again to the same winner despite improving her own score too, Angela Evers racked up 39 points with consistent bogey-free golf.

Crashing the podium, Marie Finnegan, playing off 13, recorded birdies on the 8th and the 12th and scorched the back nine coming home in 38 strokes, to finish with 38 points. Congratulations to the winners and well done everyone who played.

We thank Captain Barry for his generosity to the Ladies Club and we wish him and the Men's club a very successful Captain's Prize in a couple of weeks’ time.

Captain Barry Conroy’s Prize to the Ladies 12th July 2023: 1st Mary MacNamee (19) 41pts, 2nd Angela Evers (25) 39pts, 3rd Marie Finnegan (13) 38 pts.

MANNAN CASTLE SENIORS

Despite the threat of showery weather, the weekly senior competition had a good-sized field. Scoring over the nine holes was very competitive with many players in contention.

Denis Murphy was the eventual winner overall with a steady round of golf which contained 2 pars and a birdie. His score of 20 points gave him a clear victory over the field.

The category prizes were closely contested with both being decided on countback. Category 1 winner was last year's senior captain Jimmy McMahon, who had four pars in his last five holes to edge out Graeme Woodcock on 19 points.

In Category 2 Joe Mullen managed to prevail over Sean Harvey, David Flynn and Richard Rountree on 18 points. His last five holes proving better by the narrowest of margins.

Senior Results 11th July (9 Hole handicap)- Overall: Denis Murphy (9) 20pts, Category 1: Jimmy McMahon (8) 19pts c/b, Category 2: Joe Mullen (10) 18pts c/b.
