ST PATRICKS 2-12 MATTOCK RANGERS 0-8

St Patricks continued their pursuit of second place in the Division 1 table when they had a 10-point win at home to Mattock Rangers.

A strong second half performance did the trick for the hosts on a night when Aidan McCann and Eoin O’Connor accounted for their goals.

It was McCann’s three-pointer that got the Pats off to the perfect start when he struck the opening score in the seventh minute. Cathal Grogan added three points in a tight first half that ended with the hosts leading by 1-3 to 0-5.

The peninsula side upped the pace in the third quarter as a brace from Martin McEneaney helped stretch the advantage to 1-7 to 0-6. Eoin O’Connor then put his side firmly in the driving seat when he bagged the second goal in the 45th minute.

On a night when Cathal Fleming, Liam Flynn and Rob Holmes kicked points for the visitors, the Pats closed out the game with points from Adam Finnegan, Jason Woods and Conor McGuinness.

ST MOCHTAS 2-12 ST MARYS 0-10

St Mochtas turned in another solid display at home to St Marys on Saturday night as they recorded an eight-point win over the Ardee men.

Goals from Jamie Farrell and Craig Lennon helped the Louth Village side prevail in a well contested encounter that sees the hosts move five points clear of their opponents in second place in the table.

In what proved to be a low-scoring first half, it was the Mochtas who emerged with a 1-5 to 0-3 advantage with the help of a goal from Craig Lennon.

Once again, the second half was tight in terms of points, but the Louth Village men conjured up the all-important goal as Jamie Farrell’s strike ensured that his side came out on top.

Naomh Mairtin maintained their unbeaten league run in Haggardstown on Saturday night but were made to fight all the way by a determined Geraldines side.

The visitors, who went down to 13 men in the second half, were indebted to Craig Lynch for a penalty save at a crucial stage in the second half, as they held out for a two-point victory.

The Geraldines have rediscovered their form in recent weeks and made their intentions clear in a closely contested first half. Jim McEneaney scored the only goal of the game in the first half to ensure his side went in at the break level at 1-4 to 0-7.

The Mairtins added the first two points of the second half before a major turning point in the game saw Lynch save Jim McEneaney’s penalty.

DREADNOTS 2-13 O RAGHALLAIGHS 1-6

It proved not to be lucky 13 for O Raghallaighs as their search for a first victory of the season continued following another defeat at home to Dreadnots on Saturday night.

The hosts were simply too strong on the night and deservedly collected the three points that keeps them level with Sean O’Mahonys at the top of Division 1B.

The home side enjoyed a good share of possession in the first half and gave themselves a fighting chance as they trailed by just 2-6 to 1-5 at the break.

Owen Murphy and Ciaran Cunningham grabbed the goals for the visitors while Ben Rogan found the net for the O Raghallaighs to keep them in touch.

On a night when Kyle McElroy finished with four points, the Drogheda men were unable to maintain that momentum in the second half, as the Clogher men took control.

The Dundalk men were on top throughout the game and deservedly returned home with the three points that keeps them top of Division 1B.

The visitors had the wind in their backs in the first half and made the advantage count as they built up a 0-8 to 0-2 lead at the half time whistle.

Despite the advantage of the elements, the Brides were unable to get themselves into a position to threaten the lead as they managed just two further points in the game.

NEWTOWN BLUES 0-15 ST FECHINS 0-6

St Fechins went into this clash at Beaulieu on Saturday night hoping to complete the double over the Blues but were denied by a Blues side who picked up an important victory.

Rob Carr was the leading light in the Drogheda side’s attack as he contributed eight points in what was a deserved victory.

The Blues played with the advantage of the wind in the first half and made the most of the elements as they ended the opening period with a 0-10 to 0-1 lead.

The Fechins hopes were hampered by the loss of a number of key players through injuries picked up in their previous outing against Sean O’Mahonys. As a result, they were unable to make any inroads into the lead despite an improved performance.

Ryan Walsh (3), Colm O’Neill and Harry Haughney got scores on the board for the hosts, but their fate was sealed when they lost Cormac Dolan to a red card with ten minutes to play.
