Jamie Linden and Irish Down Syndrome Futsal Head coach Paul Smyth
Tall, strong and ball-winning – That’s how most coaches describe center backs.
Louth native Jamie Linden is all that, and being selected to represent his country is a huge honor and a dream come true.
The country's first ever Down Syndrome Futsal team will travel to Padua, Italy in September. Ireland is likely to face Portugal, Italy and Turkey in the SUDS European Championships for athletes with Down Syndrome.
The Dundalk defender has been training with the national squad in Dublin for the past two months. The squad consists of eight players and four development players.
But these trips do not come cheap. Jamie and his family are hopeful the people of the Wee County will give what they can to help this young footballer to achieve his dream.
“He always has a football jersey on and a football at his feet" explained his mother Irene.
"Over the years he was encouraged by supportive teachers, coaches and friends, who saw his potential. It would be fantastic if Dundalk’s community can help realise Jamie’s dream.”
