Louth senator welcomes funding for local creative climate action projects

Fianna Fáil Senator Erin McGreehan has welcomed funding for two creative, cultural and artistic initiatives in Co Louth under a new €5.8 million creative fund.

A total of 43 projects across the country are due to receive the funding under the Government’s new Creative Climate Action Fund II.

The Creative Ireland initiative supports creative, cultural and artistic projects that build awareness around climate change and empowers citizens to make meaningful behavioural changes.

This fund received 239 applications from an array of disciplines and industries from architecture to theatre and animation. It follows the success of the previous fund in 2021.

Senator McGreehan said: “The Creative Climate Action Fund is hugely ambitious containing a range of projects that will benefit the whole island of Ireland.

“I’m delighted to see two recipients of the fund are based in Louth.

“The Wheel and Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action (NICVA) are planning a cross-border creative arts programme to bring together the coastal communities around Carlingford Lough to engage with their marine environment, while the Urban Food Sanctuary project will empower the people of North Louth with the skills to develop local food resilience.

“These all hugely important projects and I want to commend everyone involved.”

She added:

“This Creative Ireland funding is a thoughtful, creative and powerful way of raising awareness of climate change and biodiversity loss. It will bring about meaningful change in our local communities by inspiring people to take action. This is something Fianna Fáil in Government is hugely passionate about.”
