ANNAGHMINNON ROVERS 1-12 SEAN MCDERMOTTS 1-10

Annaghminnon Rovers bounced back from their first loss of the season last week to defeat Sean McDermotts at home in Stonetown.

Rovers’ victory was well earned. They had to withstand a strong fight back from the Sean’s in the second half. Kevin McMahon and Peter Tuite had the hosts on the rack, but ultimately, they ran out of time.

Danny Commins found the net in that second half run, but it was Dwayne Markey’s opening goal that built up Cormac Malone’s side's cushion which they needed to get by the Seans' onslaught.

NAOMH MALACHI 1-8 ST NICHOLAS 0-7

It was the home side Naomh Malachi who came away with the two points against St Nicholas following a largely forgettable Division 3B contest in Páirc Naomh Malachi last Saturday evening.

Malachi’s veteran Collie Rooney found the net once again. A lucky ricochet, that fell at the full forward’s feet in the square, gave Rooney the simplest of tap ins and sent the hosts on their way.

Further scores from Jason Clarke had the home side in a good position, but the Nicks stayed in the half with points from Sam Reilly, Fionn Meagher and an impressive strike from near the sideline from their captain Brian Carter to make it 1-3 to 0-4 at the halftime break.

The second half followed the first’s trend. The visitors had a lot of possession, however they couldn’t break a resolute defence. The Mals had more opportunities, but they couldn’t convert.

Alex Finegan, Aaron Flanagan and another Downey free were all the visitors could add to their tally as the Mals joined their opponents on six points.

A strong second half showing powered the Westerns to their first league win of the season against Dowdallshill in Reaghstown on Saturday night.

At half time, the ‘Hill led 1-6 to 1-4 thanks to a fine Justin Halley effort in response to Anthony Durnin’s major. Halley was making his first appearance of the season for the visitors.

Donal Magennis collected a second half brace, but it would not be enough as Killian Crosbie turned in a man of the match display in the second period. Crosbie’s goal was vital as Magennis found the net with a penalty late on.

CUCHULAINN GAELS 1-16 JOHN MITCHELS 2-15

A hard-fought win on Saturday night against Cuchulainn Gaels saw table toppers John Mitchels make it five from five in the 3B league. James Murray’s side are proving hard to beat, home or away.

Mitchels started quickly and scored the first point within the first 60 seconds, but the Gaels won the resulting kick-out and moved the ball well with Cian McDonald fortuitously raising the green flag after a deflection.

The teams went point for point afterwards. James Sharkey replied to efforts from Cathal Corrigan, John Gallagher and Jake Gillespie before Gallagher got the Mitchels first goal of the game.

Two excellent points from Trevor Matthews and half back Mickey Nulty came before Robbie Coyle’s decisive goal put Mitchels in command at the turn, leading by 2-8 to 1-9.

The second half started much the same as the first, with both teams going point for point for the entire period. Sharkey and McDonald added to their tally, but Nulty got his third point of the night when he drove forward and whipped one over off his right and Matthews sealed the points in the finish for the unbeaten Ballybailie men.
