Ardee's U13 athletes Maisie Durnin, Lily Maguire and Oscar McArdle pose for a photo during the Louth Juvenile Track & Field Championships
Ardee and District AC enjoyed a very impressive time at the Louth Juvenile Track & Field Championships this year.
It was a fantastic weekend of competition, super organised by Athletics Louth and all their volunteers, with wonderful performances coming from many young members. The good weather adding to the sporting atmosphere enjoyed by all at the Glenmore Track.
Ardee's results began with their U9 Girls: Aisling Musiime, Sadie Durnin and Heidi Breen. Aisling took home the gold in both the 60m and 600m, Sadie came 1st in the Long Jump & 2nd in the 300m and Heidi was 4th in the Turbo Javelin.
The U10 Girls, Freya Durnin and Hannah Duffy, competed very well too, coming close to the podium with Freya finishing in 4th position in the 60m, 500m & Turbo Javelin and Hannah 5th in the 60m.
Their U11 athletes were eager for success, with Tess Maguire, Lucy Whelan, Evie Corcoran, Niamh Ireland, newcomer Katie Dunne, Frank Sands and Sean Boyle, all showing promise. The best of the results at this age came from Tess Maguire, who came 2nd in the Turbo and Frank Sands, who grabbed bronze in both the Turbo and Long Jump.
Moving up the ages, Ardee had more gutsy performances from their young teenagers. U12s Ruby Durnin, Lexie McKenny, Molly Clinton and Alfie O'Sullivan, as well as the U13s Lily Maguire, Maisie Durnin, TomJoe McCormack and newcomer Oscar McArdle Murphy, were all on show in Glenmore.
All showed potential in throwing and jumping events, with Molly and Alfie finishing in 4th position in the Shot Put, Lily 1st in the Javelin and 3rd in the Long Jump. Maisie came 4th in the Javelin too, while Oscar took the gold in the U13 Javelin.
The seasoned juveniles didn't disappoint either. Competing at the U14 grade were Ruari Mothiram, Max O'Sullivan, Daniel and Cirdei, while at U15 they had Emma Boyle and Aoife Pentony. At U16 there was Charlotte O'Shea, at U17 there was Charlie Sands in action and in the U18 events Ardee entered Kya Mothiram.
Ruari was in top throwing form, taking gold in both the Shot Put and Javelin. Max came away with three silvers in the 200m, 1500m and Shot Put and Daniel delighted in taking gold in the Javelin and 3rd in the 1500M Final.
Emma worked hard too, taking bronze in the 80m Hurdles and Charlotte outdone her best to come 4th in the Shot Put, with Aoife taking gold in the Javelin.
Charlie Sands was on top form taking gold in all four of his events: the 100m Hurdles, 400m sprint, Javelin and Long Jump, while their champion athlete Kya returned to retain her gold position in the Shot Put.
