Coláiste Chú Chulainn in Dundalk welcomed Minster for EU Affairs and Defence, Peter Burke TD for political discussions last week.
Ms Máire Byrne is the 4th Year teacher of Politics and Society at Coláiste Chú Chulainn, and outlined the purpose of the minister's visit:
"Our students are actively engaged with the world of politics at a local, national and international level. They wanted to meet the decision makers and the Minister who works with our EU colleagues.
"Minister Burke met our 4th and 5th Years in class to answer their questions around neutrality, accommodating asylum seekers, housing and education ventures across Europe."
Student Nicole Serebe was impressed with the Minister's openess about his work and experiences commenting, "we were interested to hear how Minister Burke is accountable to the Oireachtas in a thorough way.
"He gave un an insight into the busy schedule that isn't always reported. The class were interested to hear how negative remarks on social media can impact on a politician's personal and family life. But Minister Burke wants to preserve the accessibility of politicians in Ireland."
