CLAN NA GAEL 3-7
COOLEY KICKHAMS 0-10

Clan na Gael made a worthwhile trip to Fr McEvoy Park on Thursday night as they overcame Cooley Kickhams to record their second win of the Division 2 campaign.

Once again Billy Smith was prominent for the winners as he bagged two goals to add to the 1-7 he scored on the opening day against Lannleire.

Cooley went into the encounter hoping to bounce back from their defeat to Young Irelands in round one, but from the outset they were unable to impose themselves on the game and were always playing catch-up against the more confident visitors.

They were facing an uphill task at the midway point as Smith scored his first goal of the game in the opening period to see his side lead by 1-6 to 0-2 at the break.

Cooley did improve after the break and with Cian Connor, Fearghal Malone and Brian White contributing scores they raised hopes of a comeback.

However, Smith found the net for a second time along with a goal from Jack Callan to see their side return home with maximum points.

GLEN EMMETS 0-10
YOUNG IRELANDS 0-10

Glen Emmets and Young Irelands played out an entertaining draw in Tullyallen on Thursday night as both teams maintained their unbeaten starts to the Division 2 season.

Keelan O’Neill rescued a point for the hosts as he landed the equalising point four minutes into added time, in a game that saw little between the teams throughout.

It was the visitors who were first off the mark through Cian O’Donoghue only for Cian Talbot and Alex Carolan to reply inside seven minutes. Dermot Mone got his first of the night to level things soon after and it remained nip and tuck for the rest of the half.

It was O’Neill who had the final say of the first period when he pointed in added to send the Emmets in at the break leading by 0-6 to 0-5.

The third quarter saw the teams continue to trade scores but it looked as if the Young Irelands had stolen a march when Jordan O’Donoghue’s point on 52 minutes put his side 0-10 to 0-8 in front.

However, the Tullyallen men responded in the closing stages with a point from sub Tom Grimes before O’Neill landed the equaliser.

Barry O’Hare got the visitors on the scoreboard with a point in the first minute and a couple of minutes later James McDonnell put Mark Byrne through and he shot to the net for the first goal of the game.

A Niall Conlon free got the home side on the board but three more points from Shane Byrne and a brace from O’Hare put Roche 0-1 to 1-4 in front after ten minutes. Robert Quigley got O’Connells second point of the game but half back Sean Dawe maintained the visitors’ six point lead.

The Bellingham side cut the deficit to three with points from Quigley (2) and a great long range effort from Cailum Woods.

Shane Byrne and Quigley got the last two points of the half to leave the score 1-6 to 0-6 in favour of the visitors. O’Connells started the second half better and points from Jackie Agnew and Quigley left one between the sides.

The home side went in front a minute later when a Bernard Osborne hand pass was punched to the net by Woods. A brace of points from O’Hare put the sides level 1-8 each, that was just before the visitors were reduced to 14 when substitute Liam Carthy was red carded for an off the ball incident.

Conlon put the home side in front with a point but three points in a row all from the boot of O’Hare had the Faughart side two ahead with just over ten minutes to go. A Quigley free cut the lead to one but a point from Shane Byrne restored the lead to two.

The sides were level a couple of minutes later after a brace of points from Quigley with five minutes to go. Roche went in front again with a point from Jack McKay and a couple of minutes later the same player was on hand to shoot to the net to put his side four in front.

The game kicked off with Evan Maher of St. Kevin's raising the white flag with a well-taken point from play, while Lannleire responded in kind through Daragh Malone to level the scores.

St. Kevin's ramped up the pressure as Cian Callan rattled the onion bag with a clinical finish. Lannleire tried to mount a comeback, but St. Kevin's rearguard, marshalled by Seanie Crosbie and Darren McMullan, kept them at bay.

The hosts blitzed the Joes in the opening seven minutes of each half, with 1-4 in the first half and 1-3 in the same period of the second half. Kilkerley dominated the midfield area while up front their two marksmen Michael Begley and Tadgh McEnany hit a combined 2-10.

McEnaney and Begley were on target with points in the first two Kilkerley attacks. On four minutes a high dropping ball into the goalmouth found its way to the net and the Joes were on the back foot from the off.

Two superb points from wide left and wide right from McEnaney and Sean Hand had Kilkerley 1-4 up after seven minutes before the Joes got on the scoreboard with a fine long range effort from Jack Mulligan. Michael Begley made the score 1-5 to 0-1 at the end of the first quarter.

On 19 minutes a well worked Joes move saw Conor Neary find Craig Doherty to shoot low to the net but the Emmets hit back to lead by 1-7 to 1-1 at the break.

The second half was one way on the scoring front, Brian Brady pointing from the thrown in, Michael Begley on target from almost 50m and Begley cutting in from the right to hit the net with just two minutes on the clock.

McEneaney extended the Kilkerley lead with the Joes opening point of the second half comfortably coming from a Ben Collier free on 42mins.

Kilkerley continued to hit the target to lead 2-12 to 1-2 at the end of the third quarter. The final quarter saw Kilkerley add a third goal following an excellent run by midfielder Brian Brady. Points from McEneaney and Conall Quinn stretched the Kilkerley lead.

Dundalk Gaels made it two from two in Division 2 after a marvellous second half comeback against Hunterstown Rovers at The Ramparts. The revival was spearheaded once again by Thomas O’Connell.

The big full forward bagged two second half goals that saw the hosts quickly take control and undo all of Hunterstown’s excellent first half play.

Having led 0-4 to no score Rovers were 0-5 to 0-2 in front at the break, the visitors were full value with Paul Carrie reeling in the years. However O’Connell struck fast and direct with his second point early in the second period and then in the next play burying a goal to make it 1-3 to 0-5.

O’Connell quickly added his second major but Rovers would fight back and level through Carrie and Ryan Ward. But Rovers exhausted themselves in doing and Sean Murray picked them off with two points either side of a Chris Sweeney effort.

That would be enough for Cathal O’Hanlon’s men to remain unbeaten so far this season.
