Lis na Dara residents welcome Council engagement on Mount Avenue link road

The Lis na Dara Residents Association have welcomed a commitment from Louth County Council to provide “a point of contact” to discuss resident’s concerns regarding the ongoing works on the new Mount Avenue Link Road.

Following the announcement of the contract signing for the Mount Avenue Link Road Scheme in March, the Democrat was contacted by the Lis na Dara Residents Association who raised concerns about the proposed project and what they said was the Council’s lack of engagement with local residents.

At the time the Council said that the appropriate public consultation processes were followed and that during the process members of the public were invited to make submissions.

They further stated that the impacts of the projects such as road safety, traffic generation, heritage were assessed, and a report was brought to the elected members of the Council for a decision, as is required by national planning legislation.

However the Lis na Dara Residents Association had again expressed concerns “that this project will change the character, quality and in particular safety of our neighbourhood.”

This week the Council have committed to providing a point of contact for concerned residents to air any issues.

In response to queries from the Democrat, the Council said that:

“Louth County Council are open to and are continuing to engage with all of the relevant stakeholders in the Mount Avenue link road scheme.

“This will include a monthly progress report to be given to local residents along with updates on proposed traffic management amendments as they occur.

“A point of contact will also be available to stakeholders as the project progresses.”

Chairman of the Association Brian Fox said they were “really happy” with the resolution.
