President Joe Biden outside Fitzpatrick's on his last visit to Louth as Vice President
Next week sees The US President Joe Biden make his first official trip to Ireland since taking up the role back in early 2021.
His trip will see him making stops in Belfast, Dublin, Mayo and even Louth, where the President has distant family based in Cooley. It will be a four day visit starting on April 11th and ending on April 14th.
This visit will put more pressure on the Gardai, as they look to make sure the leader of the free world is kept safe while in Ireland. And this extra strain on resources has even forced the rescheduling of a Dundalk FC match, despite Biden being out of the country before a ball would've been kicked.
"The League of Ireland can confirm one fixture in the SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division has been rescheduled due to policing requirements for the official state visit of US President Joe Biden to Ireland" read a statement released late last night.
"The SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division fixture between Dundalk and Derry City at Oriel Park on April 14, 2023 has been rescheduled following discussions with An Garda Siochana who have had resources required to manage the fixture safely redeployed to assist the visit of US President Biden to Ireland.
"The fixture will now be played on Sunday, 16 April, 2023 at 15:00."
The Lilywhites are action twice in the coming days. They host Sligo Rovers later tonight (Friday 7th April), before making the trip to Munster to face Cork City at Turners Cross on Easter Monday (Kick off 5PM).
