€507k funding for Louth Meath Education Training Board

Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science Simon Harris and Minister of State for Skills and Further Education Niall Collins have today announced €8 million funding in further education capital grants for the 16 education and training boards (ETBs).

As part of the announcement, €507k in capital funding has been secured by the Louth Meath Education Training Board.

The devolved capital grant will give ETBs the discretion to make decisions around small-scale further education and training (FET) investment priorities at a local level.

The funding can be used for small scale works including necessary infrastructure and improvement works, and for the purchase of equipment.

Funding is provided under Project Ireland 2040 and forms part of the ongoing investment in the FET sector.

Using this grant, ETBs will be able to carry out work such as upgrades to computer labs and science labs, replacement of apprenticeship equipment, roof works and planned improvement works of FET buildings.

Welcoming the announcement, local Fine Gael TD Fergus O’Dowd said:

“This particular capital grant can be used at the discretion of the LMETB to build on their small scale investment priorities at local level including necessary infrastructure and improvement works, and for the purchase of equipment.

“This funding which will be distributed through SOLAS is extremely important as it allows the LMETB to continue their excellent work in progressing education and training priorities in our local communities.

“The LMETB is playing a key role in ensuring people have a multitude of routes to achieving key qualifications in further education and apprenticeships.”

Making the announcement today, Minister Harris said:

“I am delighted to announce the continuation of this vital funding stream to the ETBs.

“The devolved capital grant allows ETBs to address a range of small-scale capital needs across their FET estates, including minor works and procurement of equipment.

“This funding is an essential part of the overall funding framework to support ETBs in the delivery of FET.

“Crucially, the fund is at the discretion of the ETB meaning it can address its priorities at a local level for delivery.”

The funding will be distributed through SOLAS.
