Louth TD welcomes €135k for Bellurgan Coastal Protection Works

Louth TD welcomes €135k for Bellurgan Coastal Protection Works

Local Fine Gael TD, Fergus O’Dowd, has welcomed news this morning that €135k has been secured to carry out essential coastal protection works in Bellurgan.

O’Dowd said:

“My colleague Patrick O’Donovan, Minister for the OPW confirmed that an application was received from Louth County Council for protection works which he has subsequently approved under the Minor Flood Mitigation Works & Coastal Protection Scheme.

“The project will include the laying of rock armour along 75m of shoreline to a max height of 2m or to the existing road level.

“Bellurgan has experienced exceptional erosion and flooding for many years now, so this further investment will come as a relief locally.

O’Dowd added:

“We must continue to invest in our existing coastlines now to safeguard for our future generations.”
