Redeemer AC start indoor season on a high a note in Meath

Hope Hanratty and Emily O'Hagan, Redeemer's sprint Queens who won gold medals in the Toddler and U8 60M races hosted by Cushinstown AC

Redeemer AC were well represented at the first indoor track and field competition of 2023 which was hosted by Cushinstown AC in County Meath.

Wearing the famous blue and white colours were a host of young runners, jumpers and throwers. All keen to get their season off on a high note.

The day started strongly with a double success of golf medals, Hope Hanratty in the toddlers’ race and Emily O’Hagan in Girls U8 60M Final.

Elsewhere Cara Miele showcased her abilities across multiple athletics disciplines. In the U15 60m Sprint, she proved her speed by bagging first place in a quality final. She also recorded a personal best in the high jump of 1.4 metres to claim a silver medal in that event.

That wasn’t the end of the medals for the Dundalk based club, with two more secured by Oisin O’Brien and Evin Lagan.

Oisin secured a bronze in the U11 60M event, while also coming fourth in the long jump. Lagan finished third in U13 high jump and narrowly missed out on a podium place in the long jump and 60M race.

The club also had a medal in the Shot put, with Sophia Cumiskey taking home the bronze following a superb throw. Like many on the day, she competed in multiple disciplines and had good showings in the Long Jump and 60M race.

But of course, it is not all about bringing home medals. And there was plenty of standout athletes away from the podium competing galanty for Redeemer.

Jayden O’Hagan grabbed sixth place in the Boys 60M Race and also performed well in the long jump.

Aobha Morgan had a brilliant showing in the Girls U10 race. Despite the setback of losing a shoe along the track she still managed to get up for fourth. She also competed up an age group in the U11 Long Jump.

Shane Collins had a strong sprint finish to take fifth in the Boys U10 60M, whilst also going up his age to compete in the high jump. Nathan O’Hagan narrowly missed out on the podium with a fourth-place finish in the U13 High Jump.

Rounding out the competitors was Loran O’Brien, Ronan Norton and Harry McGuinnes, who gave there all in the U13 60m and shot put events.

Training for the season ahead continues every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings.  If you are interested in getting involved, contact 0857437717 for more details.
