Dundalk's IBAL result doesn't reflect work says Director of Services

Wrightsons Lane was one of the areas in Dundalk commended in the IBAL report

Director of Services, Thomas McEvoy, told members at the Dundalk Municipal District January meeting that Dundalk's result in the recent Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL) survey, does not reflect that actual work that goes on in Dundalk.

Mr McEvoy was responding to comments from Cllr Marianne Butler at the January meeting, who expressed her disappointment at the results that saw Dundalk deemed “littered”.

Cllr Butler commented that it was “the same stuff coming up again”, in relation to areas mentioned in the report, and remarked in relation to the car park at the back of Cost Cutters/ TSB, “how did they even get in there?”

Cllr Butler said that it was disappointing and disheartening for so many people, and added that she was of the view that Tidy Towns gave a much more “holistic view” of the town and the work that is happening.

Mr McEvoy told the meeting in response that the result was disappointing as “huge work goes in”, with a contract of about €4 million for street cleaning in the county.

He added that there are certain measures that they could target that should improve the town's score, as was done in Drogheda previously.
