Dereliction and rural families top of Butterly's agenda as she is elected in Louth

Paula Butterly of Fine Gael was elected on the final count in Dundalk on Monday evening without reaching the quota.

The Ardee Councillor had words of praise and thanks as she was mobbed by her supporters and family as the count was announced.

“Overwhelmed, thankful, humbled. From the peninsula to east Meath, Ardee, Togher, there wasn’t a place where somebody didn’t vote for me and I’m hugely humbled by it. It’s an honour and it’ll probably all sink in tomorrow.

“First and foremost as I’ve always said my roots are in family and rural communities and you can never betray your roots.

“But I also have a passion to see our towns like Ardee, Drogheda, Dunleer and Dundalk thrive by tackling seriously the issue of dereliction and getting them thriving and safe for everybody in our community.”
