Three candidates lead the way in Louth as tally is completed

With their pink tops, Joanna Byrne's team are the most recognisable at the tally today

With the tally complete here in Coláiste Chú Chulainn it looks like it could be a good day for Sinn Fein with Dundalk’s Ruairí Ó Murchú (13.5%) and Drogheda’s Joanna Byrne (13%)  in first and second position respectively.

Incumbent Drogheda TD  Ged Nash of Labour follows behind in a close second with about 12% of the vote.

After that there’s a jumble of five candidates separated by just 3% of the vote with Erin McGreehan of Fianna Fail on 8.97%, Paula Butterly of Fine Gael on 8.83, Alison Comyn of Fianna Fail on 7.78, John McGahon of Fine Gael on 6.21% and Antoin Watters of Sinn Fein on 5.97%.

Independent Kevin Callan who had been given a good chance of getting a seat is lagging behind on 5.18%.

Transfers will prove crucial for the chasing pack as the mammoth task of whittling down the massive twenty four candidate ballot sheet begins with the first count expected after 7pm.
