Meet the Louth General Election candidates: Thomas Clare - Independent

Thomas Clare

Thomas Clare is a born and bred Dunleer man, living and working all his adult life in county Louth.

He said: “Married with children and grand children, all blessed to be living, studying or working on home turf.

“Former Louth County Councillor, Accountant and Trustee Corporate Service Provider authorised by Department of Justice and a Peace Commissioner in spare time.

“I am presenting a campaign on a platform of non-postering, a campaign predicated on my track record on Louth County Council rather than on any promises that I might make today.

“As a county councillor in Louth 1999-2009 I was the only and singular 'Non-Junketted', 'Non-Expensed' and 'Non-Paid Committee Chair' in Ireland for every year of those ten years."

In his reply to Louth Tidy Towns Together regarding its election poster request, Thomas said: “I aspire to win a seat in Louth East Meath constituency running a poster free campaign in the hope that some day soon, if not in this particular election, somebody will win a seat without imposing the blight of multi postering in the county.”

He added: “From my perspective it is perilous or maybe even electoral suicide to go poster free but an honourable risk nonetheless, perhaps bearing a cross of poster elimination is a cross worth bearing.
“I am proud to back the Louth Tidy Towns Together programme regarding postering.”
