Dundalk IT students raise almost €1,000 for hardship fund

Students from Dundalk IT’s Skills for Independent Living (SIL) course recently raised an incredible €975 for the DkIT Hardship Fund run by Pastoral Care.

As part of their course, the students of the SIL group were tasked with organising a fundraiser along with their Support and Integration Officer, David Curran, and their mentors from the Intellectual Disability Nursing Course. The students came together and decided to host a bake sale within the college, opting to raise funds to support the Hardship Fund. 

The bake sale was a huge success for the group, as staff, students, family members and other Dundalk representatives came to support them. There was a wonderful  atmosphere around the building and a great sense of pride from the SIL group throughout the morning of the fundraiser.

David Curran, Support and Integration Officer at DkIT said: "The event was a great success with close to €1,000 raised for the Pastoral Care Student Hardship fund. There was such a fantastic atmosphere and huge support from staff and students. The SIL group had a wonderful day hosting the event for  such a good cause, and they were greatly supported by their mentors on the day. Events like this are a great occasion for the group with lots of learning opportunities and a sense of achievement.”

The students were delighted to present a cheque to Pastoral Care who were blown away by the amount they had raised and the support shown throughout the college. The money raised will help provide essential assistance for students who are facing financial difficulties due to personal circumstances or other hardships.
