Man in His 50s killed in two-car collision in Louth

The collision, involving two cars, occurred at around 2.50pm.

Gardaí are investigating a fatal two-car collision in Dundalk that claimed the life of a man in his 50s, with witnesses and dash-cam footage now being sought.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a fatal road traffic collision on the R215 at Newtownfane on the Ardee Road in Dundalk, yesterday afternoon, Sunday 25th January.

The collision, involving two cars, occurred at around 2.50pm.

The driver of one of the cars, a man aged in his 50s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His body has been removed to the Louth County Hospital and a post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course.

A man, also aged in his 50s, was taken to our Lady of Lourdes Hospital to be treated for non life-threatening injuries.

The coroner has been notified.

The scene has undergone a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

Any road users, who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area at the time between 2:30pm and 3:00pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.

Investigations are ongoing.
