Christmas comes early for shoppers as Louth cuts parking fees in half

Louth County Council has announced a reduction in pay parking charges across the urban areas of Dundalk and Drogheda this Christmas.

From the 1st December 2025 to the 5th January 2026, the hourly parking rate will be reduced by 50%, from €1.30 to just 65 cents per hour. This reduced rate will apply to both on-street parking and Louth County Council-managed car parks and will be clearly displayed on all pay parking machines.

In Drogheda, charges at the Windmill Road, North Strand, Dublin Road, and the long-term car parks at the Donore Road and Trinity Street will remain unchanged, while charges at the long-term car parks in Dundalk at Linenhall Street, Long Walk and Ramparts Road will remain unchanged.

Cllr Seán Kelly, Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council, welcomed the initiative, saying: “This is a practical and timely measure to support our town centres during the busiest shopping season of the year.

“By reducing parking charges, we’re making it easier and more affordable for people to shop local, support small businesses, and enjoy all that Dundalk and Drogheda have to offer this Christmas.”

We encourage everyone to take advantage of the reduced parking fees and support local businesses throughout the busy festive period.”
