Nationally, the seasonally adjusted Live Register total for August 2025 was 168,600 people, down by 500 people or 0.3% from July 2025.
There was a significant monthly decrease in the number of people signing on the Live Register in Louth in August, according to the latest figures released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).
Overall in Louth, 7,449 7,877 people signed on in August, down 428 on July.
It is also down by 148, on the 7,597 who signed on in the county in August 2024.
Looking at the individual social welfare offices in Louth, 3,364 people signed on in Dundalk in August 2025, down 167 on the 3,531 who signed on in July, and down on the 3,573 who signed on in the town in August of last year.
In Ardee, 686 people signed on in August, down 83 on the 769 people who signed on in July, and down 71 on the 757 who signed on in the town in August 2024.
In Drogheda 3,399 people were signing on, down 178 on the 3,577 who signed on in July, but up 132 on the 3,267 who signed on in August of last year.

The unadjusted Live Register total stood at 177,600 people for August 2025, of which 53.8% were male and 72.3% were Irish.
The 25-34 years age group made up the largest number of those on the Live Register in August 2025 at 43,214 people or 24.3% of the total.
The counties that recorded the largest percentage increases in the number of people on the Live Register in the 12 months to August 2025 were Dublin (+7.7%) and Kildare (+5.5%), while the largest decreases were in Kerry (-12.1%) and Donegal (-8.0%).
In August 2025, there were 121,518 people on the Live Register for less than one year, which was 5,862 more people (+5.1%) than in August 2024.
