Dundalk’s railway past: Heritage exhibition to feature 1950s GNR(I) model layout

Dundalk Railway Heritage Society will host an exhibition in Credit Union Office (formerly Houstons) 4/5 Clanbrassil Street Dundalk from 11.00am to 5.00pm over two days on Saturday 12th July and Sunday 13th July.
A model of GNR(I) Railway Works, Ardee Road, Dundalk set in the 1950s was built by the Model Railway Society of Ireland members over nine years.
"The Works" shows the various buildings of the Railway Works, a model of The Boyne Bridge, the Railway Viaduct at Drogheda, and has working models of steam engines and diesels on the layout. This layout has been to Dundalk once before in 2014, so this is a rare opportunity for Dundalk people, Railway enthusiasts, and modellers to see the layout.
Nearly every household in Dundalk had a father, grandfather or relation who worked at the Railway Works. It is part of the towns industrial heritage which is fast disappearing.
The Railway Heritage Society are delighted to welcome the Model Railway Society to show their model which has been refurbished recently and are grateful to Dundalk Credit Union for allowing us to use their new offices.
