Dundalk Town is the gift that keeps on giving! Following on from the hugely successful Frostival Winter Festival at the weekend it has been announced that The Northern Lights will be making a spectacular Christmas comeback with nine unforgettable festive shows, over three evenings, on the 6th, 7th and 8th of December.

The eight majestic arches, featuring up to 200,000 individual points of light, will be adorned with festive symbols to get us into the spirit of Christmas. Combine this visual with state-of-the-art technology, choreographed to the rhythm of iconic festive tunes and you’ve got a Christmas Street Party!

The audio-visual shows are expected to take place daily between 5.30pm and 6.30pm on Friday 6th, Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th of December, and create another wonderful opportunity for families to celebrate the festive season together in the heart of the town centre.

Preparations will be getting underway in the coming days to assemble the spectacular light installation in time for the live Christmas themed shows at Market Square.

Town Centre Commercial manager, Martin McElligott explained: “We have been developing ideas and projects to further extend Dundalk’s Christmas offering throughout the festive season. The reaction from the public when we introduced The Northern Lights earlier in the year, as part of the Brigid 1500 experience, was phenomenal.

“Now as we bring it back in a Christmas format it will create a magical atmosphere and cherished memories for years to come. We expect large numbers to attend each of the free shows throughout the weekend and it’s a case of the more the merrier!

“After our show stopping weekend, the enchanting installation will continue to light up daily (without audio) for the remainder of the season.

“Delivering a project of this scale would not have been possible without the invaluable support and partnership of Louth County Council. This collaboration, rooted in our shared vision, has been instrumental in elevating Dundalk as an even greater place to live, work, and visit.”

Joe McGuinness, Temporary Chief Executive, Louth County Council said:

“Louth County Council are delighted to partner with Martin and the team at Dundalk BIDs for another spectacular event – The Northern Lights. This incredible light show builds on the huge success of the Brigid 1500 Festival in Dundalk last January, which attracted tens of thousands of visitors from across the island of Ireland.

“We would encourage everyone to visit Dundalk town centre to take in The Northern Lights show, set to be an amazing festive experience for the whole family.”
