The Louth Green Party have announced that Gerard Crawley from Dundalk will be running as the Green Party candidate in his own constituency of Dundalk Carlingford in the Local Elections on June 7th.
A Chartered Accountant by profession, Gerard works for a local construction company and together with his wife has run their own micro company offering bookkeeping, accounting and tax services.
They have four children: two at Faughart CNS and two at Colaiste Rís.
He is a committed community volunteer: coaching under age teams with Roche Emmets and St Dominics FC; volunteering with the 5th Louth Buíon Setanta Scout Group as well as working with local residents’ associations around the Carrick Road.
Speaking about the challenge ahead Gerard said:
"As a constituent in the Dundalk-Carlingford electoral area, I want to vote Green and I know other voters in my area want to vote Green. I have been a member of the Green party for over a decade and decided it was time to step up.
I am deeply concerned about societal issues such as climate change, the environment, bio-diversity loss, social justice, equality, equal opportunity and our civilisation and democracy in general. I want to help.
I am asking voters in Dundalk-Carlingford to vote for me so that we can build on the work that our Councillors have been doing on Louth County Council over recent years.
We need to respond decisively to the challenges and opportunities that climate change presents.
I look forward to meeting as many voters as I can over the next four weeks and to personally making my case to them for their number 1 vote"
