Dundalk FC duo Vinnie Leonard and Seán Spaight have both played their part as Ireland’s Under-17s continued their perfect start at the FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar.

The Boys in Green followed up an impressive 4–1 opening game win over Panama with a 2–1 comeback against Uzbekistan this afternoon.

Leonard has played a full 90 minutes in both matches at the heart of defence and put in solid performances to help Colin O’Brien’s side to victory.

Spaight came off the bench as a 78th-minute substitute against Panama in the first game and was an unused substitute against Uzbekistan.

Ireland began their campaign in style as they eased past Panama with goals from Jaden Umeh, Kian McMahon-Brown, Michael Noonan, and Max Kovalevskis.

They fell behind early against Uzbekistan but regrouped with Grady McDonnell’s header before Michael Noonan struck late to seal a 2–1 victory and send them through to the knockout round with a game to spare.

Ireland's are next in action against Paraguay on Tuesday, 11th November (kick-off 1.30pm Irish time). The game will be shown live on RTÉ2.
