Former Dundalk FC player Leo O’Reilly has passed away at the age of 89. The Dublin native made 140 appearances and scored 22 goals for Dundalk during his time at Oriel Park.
O’Reilly joined the Lilywhites at the start of the 1962/63 season and made an instant impact, scoring twice on his debut.
He was a midfielder and played a key role and contributed four goals in the club’s league-winning season in 1962-63.

Leo played at centre back in the away leg of the Dundalk FC v FC Zurich match, where Dundalk won 2-1 to become the first Irish team to win away from home in European competition.
He remained an important utility player for three more season before departing Oriel Park at the end of the 1965/66 season.

O’Reilly, Leo (Churchtown, Dublin and late of Glenville Pitch and Putt Club, Shamrock Rovers F.C., Dundalk F.C. and Limerick F.C.) 29th March 2025, peacefully, surrounded by his loving family at St. James’ Hospital.
Beloved husband of Catherine, loving Dad of Linda, Keith and Valerie and devoted granddad to Holly, Taylor and Danielle.
He will be very sadly missed by his loving wife, son, daughters, grandchildren, his brother Christy, sisters Mary and Vera, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, relatives, neighbours and a large circle of friends.

Leo will be reposing on Monday afternoon from 4pm – 6pm at the Larry Massey Funeral Home, 100 Terenure Road North.
Removal on Tuesday morning to the Church of the Good Shepherd, Churchtown arriving for 10am funeral mass, followed by burial in Mount Venus Cemetery, Rathfarnham.
