Athlone IT was the venue for the Leinster Juvenile Indoor Track and Field Championships which took place on Saturday and Sunday of last weekend.
Dearbhla Allen who just a week earlier claimed a bronze at the Schools Cross Country, swapped the grass and muck for the fabulous indoor facility.
Running is running regardless of the surface and as Dearbhla took her place on the girl's U19 1500M final, there was only one thing on her mind and that was to go from the gun, Dearbhla just went hard from the gun and led from gun to tape to win her first indoor medal taking the gold and claiming the Leinster title. In doing so she also claimed a new Championship record of 4.38.88.

Niamh Allen competed in both the high jump on Saturday and finished in a respectable sixth place but it was in the long jump on Sunday that Niamh performed better and was unlucky not to take home a medal, having been in third place going into the last round she was narrowly squeezed out to fourth with a leap of 4.67.
This qualifies Niamh for the national championship and with the huge possibility of improving Niamh could contest at the national level.
Cian Smyth made his return to competitive action when he competed in both 400M and 60M and did well in both. Sam Jeytoo put in a super effort in the boy's U17 long jump.
