Congratulations to Patsy Cole’s Team Ash who, as anticipated, captured the Dundalk Golf Club Precision Cables Winter League after finishing well clear of the chasing field.
They held their nerve on the final weekend as they posted an excellent score of 128pts to finish on 776 points, 29 points ahead of Team Alder who won the closely fought battle to finish second.
For the sixth successive round, Team Ash produced four counting rounds of 30pts or better with Eamon McEneaney leading the way with 33pts as he scored for the fifth time.
Denis Cunningham and Larry Hanratty shot 32pts while Jim Dwyer came home with 31pts.

There was a far tighter battle for the runners-up spot with three teams in contention going into the final round but Alan Uzell’s Team Alder held on to finish second.
They shot 124pts with Vincent Conlon and David Corrigan shooting 32pts each while Uzell and Stephen Murphy returned scores of 30pts.
That left them five points ahead of Sean Ward’s Team Hazel who came up short despite the best efforts of their star player John McKeever who led the way with 37pts but unfortunately, none of his colleagues managed to break the 30pts mark.
Prizes were presented to the winners and runners-up by sponsor Fergus O’Callaghan of Precision Cables, President Eddie Rogers and Captain Gerry McDermott.
Brian Whatley (19) was the top scorer in the 14-hole individual competition on the final weekend as he shot 38pts on his way to winning Division 4.
His round included three four-point birdies at the second, 10th and 17th as well as three-point pars at the ninth and 14th. Runner-up in this category was Paul Martin (25) with 37pts.
Darren O’Brien (7) shot 36pts to win Division 1 by one point from Niall Henry (5) and also shot the day’s best gross score while John McKeever’s (12) 37pts earned him the Division 2 honours by two points from Richard Smyth.
McKeever’s round included a four-point birdie at the 12th and 10 three-point pars. Billy Curran (14) captured Division 3 with 36pts which was two ahead of Eamonn Kelly (15).
The Club are holding a Table Quiz in the Clubhouse on Thursday, 27 February at 8pm. Entry is €20 per team of four. The quiz is being held to raise funds for juvenile and elite golfer development and all are welcome.
