Patsy Cole’s Team Ash has jumped into the lead in the Precision Cables Winter League after an impressive performance in Week three at Dundalk Golf Club.
They had their best return of competition scoring 134pts with Eamonn McEneaney leading the way with 35pts closely followed by Conor Byrne and Dennis Cunningham on 34pts and David Kelly with 31pts.
That allowed them to jump one place and replace Team Hazel at the top as Sean Ward’s charges could only manage 109pts with David Cairns their best scorer with 34pts. They’ve now dropped to third place and are 22pts off the new leaders.
Team Alder moved from third to second place thanks to their return of 120pts with David Corrigan (33pts) and Ultan Gaughran (31pts) the leading contributors but the gap between them and Team Ash has been extended from four points after week two to 18pts.
The inclement weather resulted in low turnout over the weekend and saw the individual competition split into two with McEneaney’s 35pts winning the Saturday competition.
His card included nine pars and a birdie at the par-five 12th which yielded four points while seven of his pars were three-pointers. The Sunday competition saw Ciaran Traynor (5) win Division 1 with 34pts and Cathal Connolly (10) take Division 2 with 35pts.
Gavin Tinnelly (26) had the best score of the day on his way to winning Division 3 with an impressive 37pts. His score included a four-point par at the 13th and a three-point par at the 14th as well as seven three-point bogeys.
