Dundalk Grammar School make history

Dundalk Grammar School side that defeated Ballymakenny.

Dundalk Grammar School played their first ever Lennon Cup game last Monday in Darver. With St Patrick’s of Lordship jerseys on their backs, they faced into a stiff breeze and a strong Ballymakenny outfit led by county minor, Ryan Nugent.

The Dundalk outfit found themselves 2-4 to 0-2 down at half time and it could’ve been more only for Adam Keane’s penalty-saving heroics late in the first half.

An early second half goal from Luke Kelly kicked the Grammar into gear with two more goals from Ronan Foley and Dylan Rendall following in quick succession to reduce the deficit.

Ballymakenny were to hit back with great play from midfielder, Eric Winters, throughout the game to keep his side on top. A late free from DGS captain, Cian Spaight would salvage a draw for his side, a result which both teams would be happy with.

Dundalk Grammar School: Adam Keane; Tristan McElwaine, Mark Tyrrell, Callum Watters; Cillian Crowe, Daniel Kelly, Harry Valentine; Michael Daly, Stephen Tuohy; Niall Donohoe, Padraig Corcoran, Cian Spaight (0-3); Luke Kelly (1-02), Dylan Rendall (1- 02), Ronan Foley (1-02).

Subs: Ben Duffy (Donohoe), Donachadh Cotter (Watters), Peadar Walsh (Corcoran), Liam Riley (Tuohy).
