Ugly scenes erupted at the final whistle of the Louth Derby on Friday night when fans of Dundalk and Drogheda United clashed at Oriel Park.
Following Dundalk's 4-2 victory over their local rivals, there was an incident. A brawl broke out as a big group of fans stormed the pitch.
The supporters were eventually separated only after the Gardai intervened, despite attempts by match stewards to intervene. Dundalk needed this win badly because it moved them five points clear of Drogheda United in the relegation race.
Just before the final whistle sparked the fan unrest, Daryl Horgan scored twice in the second half to earn the victory for the Lilywhites. The rivals from Louth will square off again at United Park in Drogheda on Friday for the FAI Cup's second round.
