“Enjoy the walk home”: Louth Gardaí seize cars from reckless boyracers

Three vehicles have been seized and multiple drivers issued with penalties following a Garda operation targeting dangerous driving along the border over the weekend.

According to a statement from An Garda Síochána, members of the Dundalk Roads Policing Unit (RPU) observed a group of so-called “boyracers” engaging in dangerous driving behaviour that posed a significant risk to the public.

In response, Gardaí put a policing operation in place. During the course of the operation, three motorists were found to be driving without insurance. Their vehicles were subsequently seized at the roadside.

All three drivers are now expected to appear before the courts in connection with the offences.

Gardaí also confirmed that a number of other drivers were issued with tickets for various offences. 

In a statement shared on social media, Gardaí said: 

“No insurance? Grand so... we'll mind the car for ya.

“So called boyracers were observed by Dundalk RPU driving in a dangerous manner and placing the public at risk over the weekend along the border. 

“Gardai put a policing operation in place.

“Now we all know the price of petrol and diesel these days. So to help these 3 motorists out who decided they could afford the fuel to attend and support this reckless activity but not buy Insurance we obliged and seized their vehicles so they could enjoy the walk home. All 3 drivers awaiting an appearance in court.

“Numerous other drivers issued tickets for various offences. We will not tolerate these people putting innocent members of the public at risk.”
