The number of gardaí stationed in County Louth has fallen for the third consecutive year.
New figures have revealed that there are 363 gardaí operating in the county, as of December 2025. This represents a slight decrease on the previous year’s figure of 372.
However, it means that Louth’s garda numbers have dropped by nearly 10 per cent since 2022, when the total stood at 403.
Of the 363 gardaí stationed in the county, 198 are on general duty, 54 are sergeants and eight are inspectors. There are also three superintendents in the county.
Drogheda is the town which boasts the largest number of gardaí in the county, standing at 132. It is closely followed by Dundalk, which comes in at second place with 126 gardaí operating in the town.

Meanwhile, there are 35 gardaí on duty in Ardee, 17 in Drumad and 15 in Castlebellingham. Dunleer and Collon have nine gardaí each whilst Blackrock and Carlingford have five respectively.
Finally, Hackballscross and Omeath both boast three gardaí, narrowly ahead of Louth village and Clougherhead which have two each.
The Garda Commissioner is responsible for the management and administration of An Garda Síochána under Section 33 of the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024.
