A 21-year-old who used a stolen debit card to make a purchase in a local Applegreen, was sentenced to three months at Dundalk district court last week.

Kyle Callan of College Manor, Hoey's Lane, Dundalk was charged with handling stolen property in relation to the AIB card and dishonestly by deception inducing a member of staff to accept payment of €47.45 for goods at Applegreen, Inner Relief Road, Dundalk on November 30th 2024.

The court heard the wallet and its contents had been stolen on the same day.

The defendant had 128 previous convictions, although Judge Nicola Andrews was told that many of them were from when he was juvenile.

The defence solicitor said his client has a chronic drug addiction and is serving a sentence imposed by the Circuit Court, but is doing quite well in custody, which he added could be seen from how he presented in court.
