Gardaí in Dundalk have seized two vehicles and initiated prosecutions following separate road safety operations carried out by the Dundalk Roads Policing Unit (RPU).
In the first incident, gardaí stopped a VW Passat after it was flagged by their Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system.
Checks revealed that the driver had no driving licence, no insurance, no motor tax and no valid NCT.
Due to the multiple offences detected, the vehicle was seized at the scene and the driver is expected to face prosecution.
In a separate operation, members of the Dundalk RPU, working in conjunction with the Road Safety Authority, were conducting roadside checkpoints when they stopped a heavy goods vehicle (HGV).
It emerged that the driver held only a learner permit for a category C vehicle.
Under the terms of the permit, the driver was required to be accompanied by a fully qualified driver for the purposes of instruction.

However, the driver was unaccompanied at the time of the stop.
The HGV was subsequently seized and prosecution proceedings are also to follow in this case.
